Marriage |
We, as a society, have made it way too easy to walk away from a marriage. Instead of taking the time to mend our relationships, we just change our circumstances. So often we blame the other person for not meeting our needs and expectations, and rarely do we take responsibility for the part we, ourselves, play in the marital problems. There cannot be a "complete" marriage when there are two "incomplete" people. And we are all incomplete when the void in our souls is filled with anything other than Christ, Himself. Although we can do nothing to "fix" or change our spouse, we can be transformed through the presence of Jesus in our own lives. An encounter with Jesus will change us, and fill us with the character qualities we need to become the man/wife God originally intended for us to be. Malachi 2:15-16 - Has not the Lord made them one? In flesh and spirit they are his. And why one? Because He was seeking godly offspring. So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith with the wife of your youth. "I hate divorce," says the Lord God of Israel…. 1 Corinthians 7:10-13 - …A wife must not separate from her husband. But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife…If any brother has a wife who is not a believer and she is willing to live with him, he must not divorce her. And if a woman has a husband who is not a believer and he is willing to live with her, she must not divorce him. 1 Corinthians 7:27 - Are you married? Do not seek a divorce. Mark 10:9-12 - Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate….Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery. |
