Seated Beside Him

Joy and praise fill my soul as my
spiritual eyes are opened to the reality of Jesus Christ. His
plan of restoration frees me from the bondage of my sin, and he
becomes my example for living.
As I stand in awe of this sacrificial lamb, I remember the struggles he endured to fulfill the ultimate plan. Jesus came to heal the sick, comfort the broken-hearted, and redeem the lost. He was chosen to suffer for our redemption. Our world today is much the same as when Jesus was crucified -- filled with sin and brokenness. Surrounded by difficulties and obstacles, Jesus still awaits our surrender. He stands at the door of our hearts desiring to be our guide and provide the strength we need for the journey. Just as the birth of Jesus was planned, I can find courage in knowing I, too, have been chosen to face various trials. Difficulties are humbling circumstances that shape and direct my life, equipping me to carry out his will. Through trials, my character is pruned, my attitudes tested, and my vulnerabilities exposed. Yet, I am not left helpless. God has given me His Word, His promises and the guidance of His Spirit. As I study His Word, I see that trials are often a pruning process. I am called to cast off my old self and become a new creation in Christ Jesus (2 Cor. 5:17). Facing difficulties helps me recognize my old sinful reactions, and by comparing them with Christ's character, I learn new approaches for my attitudes. |
God may use difficulties for
discipline. My choices come with consequences, and if I have
chosen a wrong road, I must accept the responsibilities. This
discipline is His love (Prov. 3:12) and it calls for my repentance
and return to Him.  Trials can also be a means to test
me, both in faith and in growth. Do I fully trust that He will
deliver me from my current circumstances? Abraham was tested to
the extreme when he was asked to sacrifice his only son, Isaac
(Gen. 22:2). And I am also tested in my attitudes and actions --
how I handle the obstacles that get in my way.
In all of my difficulties, I must develop a mind like Christ. I let His words penetrate my pain. Applying His truths to my life and believing God's promises will fill me with the comfort and peace that surpasses all understanding (Phil. 4:7). In spite of my circumstances, I remember that God's plans will prevail (Prov. 19:21). I celebrate Christ with a renewed spirit of victory. Jesus persevered, and is now sitting at the right hand of God… and He's saving me a seat! © 2001 Caryn Burdine |
