A SERVANT'S HEART

 By Caryn Burdine

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:  “May it be done to me as you have said.”  Luke 1:38 (NIV)

I was prompted to invite my neighbor to next week’s Bible study, but my first thought stopped me.  “What if she thought I was a religious freak?”  And just last night I wanted to share with my husband the answered prayer I’d received that day, but I didn’t want to hear his views on “coincidences.”  I realized that each time I remained silent for fear of either offending another or worrying about how I would look.

            Then I remembered Mary…

Mary never backed away.  Mary never questioned.

This teenage, betrothed, Jewish girl who had just received the most inconceivable news…“You will be with child and give birth to a son” (Lk 1:31).

Did she worry what Joseph would think?  Did she wonder what talk would come from the townspeople?  Did she worry about her family being cast out in that society?

Not Mary.

The mother of our Lord and Savior simply responded, “May it be to me as you have said”  (Lk 1:38).

PRAYER:  Lord, I pray for a servant’s heart like Mary’s.  Help me to not worry about what other’s think, but to trust in your call on my life. Amen.
